VOTED #1 for the 3rd Year in a row by Desert Golf Magazine as the BEST PUBLIC ACCESS GOLF COURSE!

The Firecliff golf course, measuring 7,056 yards, is a true test of skill where golfers must negotiate their way around extensive natural areas, numerous water features and more than 100 bunkers/waste areas. While enjoying your round, remember to take in your surroundings and appreciate the Desert Willow views and beauty.

Desert Willow Golf Resort has emerged as the favorite place to play in the Palm Springs area for many. In fact, Golf Digest named the Firecliff course one of the “Places To Play.” This tournament tested layout is one of only three courses in California and one of the best 50 in the United Sates to receive this distinction in terms of conditioning. Firecliff, measuring 7,056 yards, is a true test of skill where golfers must negotiate their way around extensive natural areas, over 100 bunkers, and numerous water features.

The Mountain View course at Desert Willow Golf Resort was designed to be a transition between the more challenging, tournament-quality Firecliff course and the traditional course of fence to fence turfgrass, flowers and flowing water. Mountain View was intended to have each of these characteristics, but with its own distinct personality.

One of the more resort type southern California golf courses is Mountain View with wider fairways and limited desert waste areas. But don’t be deceived; Mountain View, measuring 6,913 yards, is rated just slightly less difficult than Firecliff. With more forgiving fairways, 98 well-placed bunkers, sloping greens and seven water features, Mountain View still requires the best from golfers of all levels.

Designed in 1960 by architect, William P. Bell Indian Canyons Golf Resort’s North Course is a par 72, and measures 6,943 yards off the Blue (Championship) Tees. Water comes into play on six holes that will challenge the tee shots on all six. The largest lake situated between the 9th and 18th holes and sports the Walt Disney fountain which shoots water jets over 100 feet skyward. Over 90 sand traps are placed along the fairway landing zones or strategically situated around the green complexes.

Off the tee several holes dogleg requiring both shot and distance accuracy. Good shots here are rewarded with good scoring opportunities. Putting surfaces are slightly raised with gentle rolls. Luxury homes surround almost every hole in the course. Thousands of native and palm, and other trees couple with the majestic mountain views, provide a remarkable visual experience. The average male golfer should find the distances from each tee fairly playable but women might find it a bit challenging.

The South Course of Indian Canyons Golf Resort was redesigned in 2004 from the original Billy Bell 1964 design by Casey O’Callaghan with the assistance of LPGA legend Amy Alcott. This championship par 72, 6,582 yard course has four lakes designed so water will come into play on six holes. Other South Course features include rolling knolls and fairways lined with more than 850 palm trees. Fitting with the course being on Indian owned land, some 500 Washingtonia filifera palm trees, native to the Agua Caliente Tribe are situated through the course. These native palms comprise the world`s oldest and largest group, and used by the early local Cahuilla Indians for shelter, clothing, tools and basketry.

While designed as a player friendly course, the five tee boxes will still challenge golfers of all abilities. One very unique feature is the 5 par 5 holes on the course. Water comes into play on six holes and over 60 sand bunkers line the fairways and green complexes. The tee boxes and fairways are well groomed and the greens maintained to roll fast but true.

The new course at PGA West is in a plain – a seabed 40-feet below sea level – that’s surrounded by an immense crescent of terra-cotta mountains. The course teems with purple, white and yellow wildflowers. The mix of tall and short native grasses produce different shades of green running almost to silver, and the trees – mesquite, paloverde and acacia – are native to the low desert and visually arresting.

William Francis Bell also designed Torrey Pines, La Jolla Country Club and Bermuda Dunes CC along with many other courses in Southern California and across the country. Legend Course formally Palm Springs Municipal Golf Course was designed in 1957. It was originally 9 holes, and then the back 9 was added shortly later in 1959.

Arnold Palmer Golf Management added 40 bunkers in 1996 to enhance the character and challenge of the traditional layout of just over 6,800 yards. Currently the Legend has 4 sets of tees for various handicaps and can play as short as 5,800 yards. The course meanders through several different neighborhoods most as old as the Legend Course itself. Many trees along the fairway are over 50 years old. 4 holes on the Legend Course play across or through the Palm Canyon Wash.

This course is a traditional golf course layout similar to most courses across the country. The greens on the Legend Course are “push up” greens, a common green matrix construction that is still used today. The greens are basically designed to be raised above the terrain and contain undulation that slopes drainage from back to front. Consequently this creates fast and tricky putting surfaces for the golfer. The Legend is a fun, fast, and challenging golf course for every golfer. Come out and see what locals have known for 50 years.

Famed designer Ted Robinson Sr. applied his philosophy of letting nature take it course in 1995 for the City of Palm Springs. This modern desert layout rivals most other desert courses in the valley for it uniqueness, use of natural surroundings, and playability. Ted Robinson and his environmentally friendly concepts are held true with this design. The use of natural draught tolerant desert landscape, reclaimed irrigation, and recycled materials like used tires for mounding are an intricate part of the Resort.

The layout features an island fairway, multiple water features combined with flowers and magnificent views of surrounding mountains. Most noted for it’s fairness to all golfers, the Resort is just over 6,700 yards has 4 set of tees for various handicaps and can play as short as 5,200 yards. This links style course has 2 holes that share a large green and consist of holes that go out towards the San Jacinto Mountains and return home to the clubhouse reminiscent of an “old country” design. Running parallel to the Palm Canyon Wash it also has 3 holes that play over the Tahquitz Canyon wash.

Tahquitz Canyon Wash is known to fill with running water on warm Spring afternoons from the melting snow in the mountains. The Knott’s Soak City Water Park as well as the City of Palm Springs’ Demuth Park can be seen and heard when playing this course. The Resort also offers many varieties of natural wildlife that call the washes, landscape, and even the fairways their home. Often overheard “My best round ever”, the Resort is friendly, fun, and unforgettable.
