The South course provides its players with much of the same experience they would find on the North course at The Boulders. The scenic views and desert beauty continue – with even more locations for the perfect photographic moment. While the North course is the original offering from the resort, many people believe that the South course is the most scenic. In fact it has holes that go right up into the boulder formations. During your round you will encounter the signature “Boulder Pile” and also “Rosie’s Rock”, two of the resort’s most recognizable rock formations.

This championship course gently shifts between panoramic openness to the intimacy of lush foliage along Willow Wash. Mirroring the southwestern styling of the petroglyph-etched boulders that mark each hole, the adjoining Club House with Pro Shop and snack bar offer a casual but elegant retreat. Unlike many of Arizona’s “target” golf courses, Dove Valley Ranch is player friendly, with manicured transition areas that allow its guests to recover without penalty.

The Raptor is 18 holes by Tom Fazio with Crenshaw Bent-grass greens and one of the finest desert layouts in the valley. The layout includes extensive mounding and massive bunkering, as well as shot-making pushed to the edge. It’s not for beginners, and even seasoned players will struggle when elements push the Raptor’s claws into the attack position.

This beautiful course is one of the most exciting and dramatic golf courses ever built in the Southwest. Talon course was recently named among Golf Magazine’s ‘Top 10 You Can Play in U.S.’ and has been selected to host many prestigious events, including the finals of the inaugural Andersen Consulting World Championship of Golf in 1995. Talon offers elevated greens that are large and undulating, with numerous water hazards coming into play as well as one hole with an island green.

The new Longbow Golf Club was unveiled in the fall of 2003. Rees Jones has taken a pristine piece of lush Arizona desert and created Quintero Golf Club, often described as the “Purest Golf Experience” in the Southwest.

The Lost Gold Course was the site of the 2002 Senior Slam, when Fuzzy Zoeller edged Don Pooley by one stroke to win the $300,000 top prize.

The Prospector Golf Course, which opened in 1998, combined the creative skills of Jack Nicklaus and his son Gary. The designers have delivered a community-based course with inspirational vistas, fairways that are wide and friendlly, and green speeds that are faster than at some major tournaments. This Nicklaus course has been the site of the 2002 Countrywide Tradition tournament and the home of the LPGA Safeway International from 2004 to 2008. Open since December 2001, the Cholla Course at We-Ko-Pa has garnered countless honors and has quickly become recognized as the reference course for quintessential desert golf. Designed by Scott Miller, this 7,225 yard layout was named by Sports Illustrated as one of the 10 best new public courses in the world shortly after its debut. Since then, Zagat Survey 2006-2007 gives Cholla its highest rating among all Arizona courses and Golfweek ranks the layout #2 on its 2006 list of the state’s best public courses.

The landscape of the new Saguaro course features fascinating movement that has allowed Crenshaw and Coore to design a course that is unique to the desert, and differ from the original Cholla course. The championship layout will challenge players of all skill levels with a beautifully fair test of golf, and will require them to play a variety of shots and find solutions to unusual challenges. Fashioned with walking in mind, Saguaro is a refreshing classic throwback to golf course design.

The Faldo Championship Course, which plays up to 6,846 yards, sits on a 174-acre site and offers a slight variation from the typical desert-theme courses. It features generous fairways, large greens and multiple tee boxes. The surrounding mountains and century-old saguaro cacti as well as 108 sand bunkers, reminiscent of the Australian sand belt courses, provide a spectacular setting for the golf course and golfing guests.

The Palmer Signature Course plays up to 7,145 yards, providing a very scenic desert experience. The expansive fairways allow the player to remain in play even on an errant shot. The flashed bunkering on Palmer is superb, and the putting greens carry plenty of undulation, like many Arnold Palmer designs. The expansive square footage of the greens (average size is 7,000 square feet) allow the undulations to create subtle challenges for the short game without feeling contrived or “tricked up”.
